Michael J. Fox, Peter Weir, Euzhan Palcy and Diane Warren will receive honorary Oscars

He argued: “Michael J. Fox’s tireless advocacy for Parkinson’s disease research, coupled with his boundless optimism, exemplifies the impact of one person in changing the future of millions. Euzhan Palcy is a pioneering filmmaker whose groundbreaking importance in international cinema is grounded in film history.”

Regarding Warren, he pointed out that “his music and lyrics have increased the emotional impact of countless films and inspired generations of musical artists”; while he called Weir “a director of consummate skill and mastery whose work reminds us of the power of cinema to reveal the full range of human experience.”

The honorary Oscars are awarded “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy,” according to its regulations.

Michael J Fox will receive the humanitarian award jean hersholt for his humanitarian contribution in his fight against Parkinson’s Disease. For his part, Peter Weir accumulates in 40 years of career remembered titles such as “The year we live in danger”, “The Truman Show” and “The society of dead poets”, among many.

Palcy was the first black director to win the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival for her film “Sugar Cane Alley,” among other achievements; while Warren is the author of countless movie songs, including “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, from “Mannequin”; and “I Don´t Wanna Miss a Thing”, sung by Aerosmith for the movie “Amageddon”.

Last year, the Academy had recognized Danny Glover with the Jean Hersholdt prize already Samuel L. Jackson, Elaine May and Liv Ullmann with an honorary Oscar.

The ceremony of the Board of Governors takes place several months before the official Oscar gala, whose next edition will take place on March 12.
