Media mogul Rupert Murdoch and ex-model Jerry Hall are getting divorced

The Murdoch empire is rumbling: According to a report in the New York Times, media mogul Rupert Murdoch and ex-model Jerry Hall are getting divorced. It would be the fourth divorce for the 91-year-old multi-billionaire. The split could impact companies like Fox News or the Wall Street Journal.

So far, the couple have not confirmed the separation rumors: “They want to know anonymously from the couple’s confidants that the media mogul and the ex-model Jerry Hall are getting divorced. For Rupert Murdoch, who has an estimated fortune of 14 billion pounds (about 16 .2 billion euros), it would be the fourth divorce. It is unknown whether there is a marriage contract. A spokesman for Murdoch initially declined to comment.

For the Murdoch empire, there is no reason to fear that the ownership structure of the companies in which the 91-year-old is involved will change. These include Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, among others. The shares are strictly managed. Murdoch shares voting rights with his four eldest children, Lachlan, Elizabeth, James and Prudence, in such a way that he can never be overruled.

Surprising separation

Still, the split could impact its right-wing news brands, the New York Times reports. These include Fox News in the US, The Sun in the UK and Sky News in Australia. With all three brands, Murdoch has a strong influence in the US and abroad.

As the “New York Times” reports, friends are surprised by the sudden separation. When announcing his engagement on Twitter, Murdoch described himself as “the happiest, most contented man alive”. He gave Hall a 20k ring which is said to be worth over £2.4million.

Australian-born Rupert Murdoch and Jerry Hall married close family in London in 2016. Hall dated Rolling Stone legend Mick Jagger for years but never married. Four children were born of their relationship. Murdoch said early in their marriage that he would like to spend more time with his wife. Also to give his children, especially his later successor Lachlan, the space to “hold their ground at the top of the corporate hierarchy”.
