Should Diego Maradona’s doctors and nurses go to jail? A court has now admitted a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
It’s getting serious for the medical and nursing team of the late football legend Diego Maradona (1960-2020). As reported by the Argentine media, the competent court has now given the go-ahead for the investigating public prosecutor’s office to charge. Eight suspects must now face the charge of negligent homicide in a main hearing. However, the start of the process is not expected until late 2023 or early 2024.
His personal physician, Leopoldo Luque, and his psychiatrist, Agustina Cosachov, will also be in the dock. Furthermore, another doctor, a psychologist, a coordinator of his health insurance and a total of three nurses have to answer for themselves. During their investigation, the public prosecutor came to the conclusion that the interdisciplinary team had mistreated the 1986 soccer world champion for years. That was the cause of Maradona’s death. The accused, who have so far denied any responsibility for Maradona’s death, face up to 25 years in prison.
