Royals: Dutch royal family poses for summer photo

It’s a cherished tradition – the traditional summer photo of the Dutch royal family. Only this time the weather didn’t cooperate.

The Dutch royal family posed in front of the photographers for the traditional summer photo just before the summer holidays.

Instead of the summery beach idyll, however, the date on Friday had to be moved to the palace in The Hague at short notice due to severe weather warnings. All three daughters of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were there.

Only 15-year-old Ariane still lives at home. 16 year old Alexia is currently attending boarding school in Wales. And Crown Princess Amalia (18) will move to Amsterdam, where she will begin her studies after the summer. Amalia told reporters that she was glad she found a room despite the housing shortage. “I’m incredibly grateful that I was able to find a room. I’m happy to live with fellow students.”

The Oranje family is very concerned about their own privacy and only faces photographers twice a year. This was the first photo op in a year. Because of the Corona rules, the date was canceled during the family’s traditional skiing holiday in Lech in Austria.
