At 60 percent, the apprenticeship is highly regarded among 14 to 29 year olds. It is before the Matura with 58 percent. For comparison: it is the other way around in the general population. For 62 percent, the Matura is very important. The apprenticeship is way behind with 37 percent.
That is one of the core statements of the study “Future of the world of work”, which was commissioned by Leitbetriebe Austria and the apprenticeship initiative “Zukunft.Lehre.Österreich” (ZLÖ): Marketagent asked 1000 young people between 14 and 29 years of age about their ideas . “The young generation knows that teaching is valuable, but we still have a shortage of apprentices,” says ZLÖ managing director Mario derntl, an Upper Austrian. Half of the respondents also confirmed the demand for more professional orientation in schools and more trial opportunities in companies.
20.5 percent of those surveyed stated that better wages would help to make teaching more attractive. 9.1 percent said the teaching would need an image improvement. More about the study read on Saturday’s career news.
