“Aquaman” star: Jason Momoa becomes ambassador for ocean protection

Hawaiian-born actor Jason Momoa is best known for his role as Aquaman. Now he has been appointed ambassador for life under water.

“Aquaman” star Jason Momoa is now an ambassador for the protection of the oceans and their inhabitants.

“It is with respect, admiration and humility that I join the UN family in committing myself to the most important work of all: serving, protecting and preserving the ocean and all living creatures on our beautiful BLUE planet,” wrote the 42 -year-old on Instagram. The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) named him an “ambassador for life under water” at the United Nations Ocean Conference on Monday.

The Hawaiian-born actor is best known for his role as DC superhero Aquaman, who rules the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and can communicate with marine life. He also played the warrior Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. According to a UNEP report, Momoa has been campaigning for a long time, among other things, against pollution of the seas by single-use plastic and for the preservation of coral reefs. As an ambassador, he will continue to alert the world to the urgency for action.

Momoa was accompanied to the ocean conference in Lisbon by his two children, 14-year-old Lola and 13-year-old Nakoa-Wolf. Both posed alongside their father for a photo that Momoa posted to Instagram. “We must strive to right the wrongs we have done to our children and grandchildren,” the Hollywood star said.
