Depeche Mode: Band announce Andy Fletcher’s cause of death

On behalf of the family, Depeche Mode announce the cause of death of their founding member Andy Fletcher: a ruptured main artery.

Keyboardist and Depeche Mode founding member Andy Fletcher died unexpectedly on May 26 at the age of 60. A good month later, singer Dave Gahan (60) and mastermind Martin Gore (60) announced the cause of death of their long-time musician colleague on the band’s side on Monday night.

“A few weeks ago we received the result of the medical examination. Andy’s family asked us to share it with you. Andy suffered an aortic dissection at home on May 26th [Riss in der Hauptschlagader, Red.]”, . “Although it was much, much too early, he died naturally and without long suffering,” emphasize the musicians.

Gore and Gahan also report on the funeral service that took place in London last week. “It was a beautiful ceremony and meeting with a few tears but also great memories of Andy, stories of our times together and some good laughs,” they wrote alongside a photo of Fletcher.
