Prince Harry comments on Afghanistan

For ten years, Prince Harry served in the British Army as a soldier, during which time he was stationed twice in Afghanistan. After the Taliban finally took control of the country over the weekend, the prince turned to veterans and commented on the situation in Afghanistan. As the founder of the so-called Invictus Games, a Paralympic sporting event especially for disabled veterans, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth called on veterans around the world to stand by one another.

“What is happening in Afghanistan affects the international Invictus community. Many of the competitors of the participating countries in our Invictus family are linked by having had the same experience of serving in Afghanistan for the past two decades. And we have measured us together with the Invictus team from Afghanistan for several years, “says the statement that Harry published together with the organizers of the sporting event.

Prince Harry campaigns for disabled veterans

“We encourage everyone in our Invictus network – and in the wider military community – to speak up and stand by one another,” continued Harry. The prince has often spoken in the past about how formative his time in the military and in Afghanistan was for him. Together with his wife, Duchess Meghan, he is also committed to destigmatizing mental illnesses.

Harry was a helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, flew wounded people to hospital. In a guest post for the, he once impressively described the horrors of the local war, described how children died and he saw injured people. His first mission in Afghanistan had to be canceled in 2008 because his whereabouts had become known. In 2012 and 2013, Prince Harry then spent several months as a co-pilot in the southern Afghan province of Helmand.
