Dakota Johnson opens up about chaotic filming of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’
The leading role in the erotic three-part film “Fifty Shades of Gray” helped Dakota Johnson achieve international breakthrough. In an interview with the magazine, the 32-year-old has now talked about how chaotic the shooting was at the time – and that it was also due to author EL James, on whose books the films are based. “She had a lot of control over the creative process, all day, every day. And she was just demanding that certain things be done. There were parts in the books that just don’t work in a movie, like the inner monologue that sometimes was incredibly cheesy. Saying it out loud wouldn’t work. It was always a struggle. Always,” Johnson said. After leading actor Charlie Hunnam left and was replaced by Jamie Dornan, James completely discarded the original script. The film went in a completely different direction, but Johnson had already signed her contract. “I was young. I was 23. It was scary. There were a lot of disagreements. I haven’t been able to ever be honest about it because you want to promote a film. I’m proud of what we ended up doing , and everything turned out as it should, but it was difficult.” She doesn’t regret making the films, but if she had known beforehand how crazy it was all going to be, “probably no one would have done it”.
