Mick Jagger by Andy Warhol: a 1975 silkscreen goes up for auction in New York

Estimated to be worth between $100,000 and $150,000, this Warhol (1928-1987) silkscreen is the centerpiece in a series of three online-only contemporary art sales, dubbed Contemporary Edition (July 8-19), First Open (from July 8 to 20) and Trespassing (from July 8 to 21).

The sales group includes a selection of rare works by leading 20th-century and contemporary artists, with estimates ranging from $500 to $200,000, depending on the different lots that range from Warhol to Keith Haring Y David Hockneyas well as stars of the contemporary market such as Sarah Hughes and a complete set of eight screen prints of julian oppie.

The “Trespassing” sale brings together a collection of works by innovative artists, from those who trace the influence of graffiti on contemporary art to those who have done their work in NFT format, such as Kaws, Katherine Bernhardt, Edgar Plans, and ThankYouX. Returning to Warhol, there are numerous works in which the king of pop art took icons from visual culture to transform them into the motif of his work, as happened with Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy or Elizabeth Taylor.

with the singer of the Rolling Stones had a relationship of friendship and admiration: not only did he take pictures of Jagger, but Warhol was also in charge of designing one of the most famous covers in rock history, that of “Sticky Fingers”, by the British band that exhibits a -by then scandalous- close-up of the zipper of a pair of jeans.
