Former Economics Minister Martin Bangemann has died, as Christian Lindner reports. He was 87 years old.
Martin Bangemann (1934-2022) is dead. The German politician and former chairman of the FDP died at the age of 87, said FDP leader Christian Lindner (43).
Bangemann was born in Wanzleben in 1934. Under ex-chancellor Helmut Kohl (1930-2017), he was Federal Minister of Economics between 1984 and 1988. From 1985 to 1988, the longstanding party member acted as Federal Chairman of the FDP and from 1989 to 1999 as EU Commissioner – initially for the internal market, later for industrial policy, information technology and telecommunications.
“Keep an honorable memory”
“He was a passionate liberal, a fighter for the social market economy and above all a great European,” writes Christian Lindner. In a press release, the 43-year-old also explains, among other things, that the Bangemann party wants to “keep an honorable memory”.
