He had planned his funeral while he was still alive: Karl Dall found his final resting place on the weekend – on the high seas.
As a real Friesian boy, he had only one wish: Karl Dall wanted to be buried on the high seas. The native of Emden, who died of a stroke last November at the age of 79, meticulously planned his last rest. But there was one thing he definitely didn’t want: to be buried under corona conditions. It was only now that he found his final rest.
His family said goodbye to Dall on Sunday – more than seven months after his death. “Karl is now a part of the great and infinite sea, the waves, the ebb and flow of the tide”, announced his relatives. And: “The sound of the sea tells a lot of stories and now with a little more humor. We miss him very much and he will live in our hearts forever.” The burial at sea took place on Sunday morning in the immediate family circle.
Back in November, Dalls manager announced that the comedian, actor and singer had planned and paid for his funeral himself. However, he did not want a memorial service under corona conditions. Probably also against the background that his daughter had to travel from Canada. Therefore the ceremony could only take place now.
Karl Dall had been married since 1971
Dall died on November 23, 2020 of complications from a stroke. The 79-year-old collapsed while filming the ARD evening series. He died of the consequences twelve days later in a hospital in Hamburg. He leaves behind his wife Barbara, to whom he has been married since 1971, and daughter Janina, who works as a stunt woman in Canada.
Dall was born to a principal and a teacher. He was teased at school for his weak eyelid muscles, but he soon made his shortcoming his trademark. The native Emden with the hanging eye went to Berlin and found his calling as the nation’s joker. After the end of the Insterburg & Co. stupid group, he was one of the figureheads of for over two decades “Do you understand fun?”. But his humor was not always good and nice. With his own show “Dall-As” he frightened his guests and caused controversy. But the audience could never be angry with him for long.
