Royal yachts: This is how the royals of this world travel at sea

Long before the word “luxury yacht” was automatically associated with Russian tycoons or Arab oil billionaires as owners, a small, select group of ship lovers had the finest ships built for centuries: the royal families of Europe.

The fleet of stately furnished royal yachts, with which crowned heads – from the last Russian tsar to the princes of Monaco – have been cruising the seven seas for centuries. And some royals can’t let go of luxury at sea even today.

A small list of historical and current royal ships:

Yacht “Britannia”: The Queen’s favorite floating residence

There can hardly be a better example of a royal “leisure boat” than “Her Majesty’s Yacht (HMY) Britannia”, built in 1953 for Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II.
