How to choose an avocado?

What can be more complicated is knowing if the avocado is ripe or not, but there is more than one trick to get it right. The color, the darker the more mature, is a great clue, and also how hard or soft the piece is. But neither is it a matter of starting to squeeze all the avocados that are put in front of us.

So a good system to know if we are facing an avocado at its ripening point is to remove the corner that remains on top. If what we see is dark in color, it means that it is already a little old. If the color is green, it means that it still has a few days to mature, if we find a yellowish color, it indicates that we can sink our teeth into it.

Another way to test the ripeness of the avocado is to shake it lightly; If, when doing so, you notice that the bone inside moves or gives way slightly when pressed with our fingers, it means that it is ready to be consumed.

We can also help the piece to ripen earlier, by wrapping it in newspaper next to an apple or a banana, and it will ripen in a couple of days. On the contrary, the ripening process time can be reduced by wrapping the avocado in plastic wrap or in an airtight container to prevent air from reaching the fruit.

And if what we want is to keep an already cut avocado, then we have to sprinkle a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar on the parts that are exposed outside the skin and store it in the fridge in an airtight container.
