Movies four and five have yet to go into production, but when they do, Cameron says he may not be at the helm.
“The Avatar movies themselves are all-consuming”Cameron said in an interview with the magazine Empireadding that there are other projects he is developing that excite him.
“I think over time, I don’t know if that’s after three or four, I’ll want to pass the baton to a director that I trust to take over, so I can do other things that interest me as well,” he continued. “Or maybe not. I don’t know.”
Despite not being sure whether or not he will direct the rest of the franchise of AvatarCameron looks forward to seeing how the stories unfold.
“Anything I need to say about family, sustainability, climate, the natural world, issues that are important to me in real life and in my film life, I can say on this canvas,” he said, sharing that he he gets more excited with each new movie in the saga.
“I really hope I can make it. But it depends on market forces. There are three in the can, so it will come out regardless. I really hope we get to do four and five because ultimately it’s a great story.”
