Superhero: Anthony Mackie is said to play “Captain America” leading role

So far, US actor Anthony Mackie has only appeared in supporting roles in superhero films. But now he could finally become the leading actor in “Captain America 4”.

US actor Anthony Mackie (42, “Deadly Command – The Hurt Locker”) has played Marvel superhero Sam Wilson alias Falcon several times, most recently in “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019 – but so far always in supporting roles.

Now Mackie could become the leading actor in “Captain America 4”. The actor was awarded the contract for the planned continuation of the action spectacle, reported the US industry papers “Deadline.com” and “Variety” on Wednesday.

From the “Avengers” series, Mackie is known as an ally of Captain America alias Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who could now take over his legacy. In “Avengers: Endgame” the aged Rogers had offered to give his friend Sam the Captain America shield. This scenario also takes up the new Marvel miniseries “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier”, with Mackie (The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier) as the main actors.

Author Malcolm Spellman’s series started on Disney + last March. Spellman is now also on board as a writer for the next theatrical version. A director is not yet known.
