Microteatro launches a new edition in several venues starting tomorrow

The selection is in charge of María Figueras, Lorena Romanín and Julieta Novarro, owner together with Pablo Bossi of Microteatro. They look for works that have a beginning, middle and end, with some twists during the plot and for the most part there is no lack of humor. It is made explicit that single scenes or style exercises are not accepted, with a minimum of six pages and a maximum of eight, which translates into works that do not exceed 13 minutes.

Rooms

The six Microtheatre rooms are painted at the beginning of the month in the color requested by the works in the central section. Maintenance must be exhaustive since numerous companies pass by to assemble and disassemble sets, which, although not impressive, must be transported daily from one place to another. For the actors it is an interesting training session, with four or five performances per night and audiences that vary in each function. Many confess to feeling in a loop and are happy to have a rematch that same night if they feel that the function was not optimal. For companies, the four or eight two-day performances at Microteatro are equivalent to a complete season at the independent or commercial, if two months of weekly performances are considered. In Microteatro, eight performances are just the start.

It all started in 2009 in Madrid, when fifty directors, authors and actors presented a theatrical project that began in a building that until then had functioned as a brothel on Ballesta Street. The 13 rooms of the place housed 13 cooperatives with the motto of creating a play of less than 10 minutes for an audience of less than 10 people per room and that would deal with a common theme, prostitution. These works were performed as many times as there was an audience for three hours. The experiment ended up being a success and was transformed into Microtheatre for money.

In Buenos Aires it opened in August 2017 and went from 10 to 15: minutes, spectators and square meters per room, when it was already operating successfully in Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, Malaga, London, Mexico City, Lima and Miami. The difference with the local proposal lies in a space built especially for this purpose, while the age heterogeneity, which initially ranged from very young to very old, was slowed down by the pandemic that alienated the older public. However, it gradually returns.

Like several rooms, Microteatro en Pandemic strengthened the connection with its public and the artistic community. It offered works via streaming for more than a year until it reopened in La Rural in March 2021. In November of last year it returned to its headquarters with strict protocols. It was not allowed to drink in the rooms, nor to remove the chinstrap, and the works lasted the time that was considered close contact. With the regrowth of the summer, January was very critical at the public level, with functions suspended due to covid, and from February the public rebounded and was on the rise.

For this reason, they decided to add “Microplus” last month, with a Tuesday and Sunday billboard, which before the pandemic was “Sunday Micro Tuesdays”, and was added to the extensive billboard that presents six works in central session from Wednesday to Saturday. (from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.), on Wednesdays and Saturdays another six in Golfa and on Thursdays and Fridays another six different ones, also in Golfa (from 10:30 p.m. to midnight and more on weekends). The price is accessible, currently a work costs 500 pesos but there are combos if two or more works are seen and other promotions.

From the selection of the best works of the first semester that will be seen starting tomorrow, we highlight: “El vivero”, by Carolina Liponetzky, directed by Martín Goldber and performances by Manuela Iseas and Mariela Kantor (Thursday and Friday at 10:20 p.m., 22.50, 23.20 and 23.50); “The couturier and the bride”, by Liponetzky, directed by Sebastián Suñe and performances by Martina Salazar and Rodrigo Lica Llorente (Tuesdays and Sundays at 8:10 p.m., 8:40 p.m., 9:10 p.m., 9:40 p.m.). “A matter of laughter”, directed by Golber, with Mayra Homar; “Globo delies”, directed by Dalia Gutman and “El chacal”, with Gonzalo Ruiz.
