Two gigantic, screaming goats are the secret stars in “Thor: Love and Thunder”. Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the god of thunder, receives it as a thank you after a rescue operation with the “Guardians of the Galaxy” on a foreign planet. From now on, the two animals are Thor’s constant companions in director Taika Waititi’s wacky superhero comedy.
Their story is quickly told: Thor seeks his inner peace and keeps away from all heroic tasks until new danger threatens. Gorr the godslayer (terrifying: Christian Bale) wants – true to his name – to kill all the gods. Together with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who carries the hammer as the new goddess of thunder, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and the “Guardians” (including Chris Pratt), Thor stands in the way of the nasty villain.
After Marvel recently went almost esoteric with Chloe Zhao’s long-winded “Eternals” and Sam Raimi’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” contained horror film elements, the new “Thor” is a colorful comedy in which the participants don’t agree to a gag are a pity. Director Waititi may not be able to top his grandiose predecessor “Thor: Ragnarok”, but with “Love and Thunder” he brings another entertaining, visually impressive comic adventure to the screen. The effect-heavy hustle and bustle is accompanied by a great soundtrack, which contains several songs by hard rock icons Guns N’ Roses. (APA)
