Bernhard Brink on Jürgen Drews: “He put a lady in my hotel bed”

The hit stars Bernhard Brink (70) and Jürgen Drews (77) met 46 years ago. A long career followed, during which their paths crossed again and again. In 1976 they met for the first time at a music publisher in Berlin. Brink’s first thought: “The boy looks good.”

In the years that followed, the two became regulars in the “ZDF hit parade” with Dieter Thomas Heck (1937-2018). For Brink it was a “great time that will never come back like this”: “There was no AIDS and no Corona and we lived with an ease that one can only dream of today.” The zeitgeist was different back then, “not so dogged and overly correct, but liberal and cheerful”.

They often played pranks on each other on tours together. For example, he once switched off Drews’ microphone and warbled his songs from behind the stage in a disguised voice: “The audience laughed their heads off.” In another anecdote, however, Brink was the victim: Drews and Heck put a lady in his hotel bed. When he came into his room, she jumped up naked and screamed: “You swine promised me marriage!” Drews and Heck would have stood on the balcony and laughed their heads off.

He finds it sad that his friend Jürgen is now retiring and abdicating as King of Mallorca, says Brink. But he knows one thing: “Jürgen, you will always be our king of hearts!” Jürgen Drews announced on Saturday evening on the show “The big hit beach party 2022 – it starts again!” emotionally the end of his career. Alongside moderator Florian Silbereisen (40) and his wife Ramona Drews (48), he said: “Since I’m at an age when others have been retired for a long time, I also said to myself: ‘At some point it will be good.’ “
