Casting show: RTL sets DSDS 2023 – Bohlen in the last season

With Dieter Bohlen, more people think of strict jury judgments than of “Cheri Cheri Lady” and Thomas Anders. After his break he returns to DSDS – but that means two big goodbyes.

After 20 seasons, RTL discontinues its casting show “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” – and puts Dieter Bohlen (68) on the jury again to say goodbye. Florian Silbereisen (40), who took over the job of head of the jury last season, will no longer be there. RTL is developing new program formats with him, it said.

This is three surprising news for the viewers, after all, the separation of DSDS and jury veteran Bohlen about a year and a half ago did not seem very harmonious. “We have changed, Dieter Bohlen has changed too. I think the break was good for both sides, »said RTL Managing Director Henning Tewes of the German Press Agency.

«Dieter is Dieter»

The spectators will probably not experience a tame plank. «Dieter is Dieter – and that’s what he should be. He talks Tacheles, he also offends, »said Tewes. «At the same time, Dieter has also developed further. Now we want to celebrate the format together one last time, in a good and relaxed mood. »

After the 20th edition, DSDS should be over, the new and final season should start in spring 2023. Only in the past, the 19th season, was the head of the jury Bohlen not there. He, who was often offended with his brusque manner, would not be good, said Bohlen to the German Press Agency: “If I can’t be the Dieter that I am, I wouldn’t have agreed.”

Bohlen’s farewell to DSDS came as a surprise to many at the time, RTL wanted to fundamentally rebuild the show. In the 19th season, someone else sat in the chief judge’s chair: entertainer Florian Silbereisen. He is no longer there – singer Ilse DeLange and producer Toby Gad are also no longer on the jury.

Further cooperation with Silbereisen

The show was fresh and exciting with these three, said RTL entertainment boss Markus Küttner. «My big thanks go to all three who have enriched the show with their great musical expertise and their feeling for musical talent. I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with Florian Silbereisen.”

The fans should also be excited – after all, Silbereisen is already a jack of all trades on German television. On ARD he regularly moderates the hit shows “Die Feste” on Saturday evenings, on ZDF he is the captain on the “Traumschiff” – and he also has his own music projects.

And Dieter Bohlen? Many are now more likely to associate it with his harsh jury verdicts on DSDS than with “Cheri Cheri Lady” and Thomas Anders. After all, the former Modern Talking singer was the head of the jury for 18 seasons, and the cast around him changed quite a bit. Bohlen now says about the interim separation: “We never argued, everyone always misunderstood that. It was more like a relationship, a lot of misunderstandings.”

Content disputes are completely normal. “Now we’ve talked a lot and I’ve always said that I like doing DSDS and that RTL is my first choice. Nothing changed about that.” “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” is pure emotion for him, an important part of his life. “To be part of the last season, it just has to be like that.”
