“I’ve learned to put my needs first – after my son,” she told the magazine, adding that she couldn’t do it before. The reason was her severe depression, which not only affected her well-being, but also her marriage.
“I wanted to do everything to have a happy marriage, organized everyday family life, the holidays, just everything. And then at the age of 24 I had the worst depression of my life, with panic attacks. I loved my husband very much and wanted to move around always take care of everything perfectly, but it didn’t go on like this,” she said.
The interview with “Bunte” was not about separation or even divorce, and yet the past tense in which Cathy Hummels spoke is meaningful.
