Vienna museums: Advisory board recommended returns

They concern a total of more than 1150 objects in several Viennese museums and institutions.

The Natural History Museum is supposed to return the geological collection of 846 objects from Georg Rosenberg, who donated it to the house before fleeing the Nazis in 1938. At the MAK there are two silver candlesticks owned by Alfred Kirchenberger, which the doctor had delivered to the Dorotheum in 1938 after his forced retirement, from where they were transferred to the MAK’s predecessor.

KHM: 61 books

The same applies to a total of more than 70 items that the lawyer Siegfried Fuchs sold to the Army History Museum in 1940 in order to use the proceeds to finance his escape to Shanghai.

The National Library has to return books confiscated under the Nazi regime, and 61 books by the art historian Ernst Kris have also been identified in the library of the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM) and must now be returned.

Folklore Museum: 174 photos

These recommendations are binding. In addition, the Art Restitution Advisory Board advocated the return of 174 photos from the holdings of the Vienna Folklore Museum. That is what the Folklore Association, which runs the museum, asked for itself. The photos come from Anna Mautner’s collection, which was confiscated in 1938.
