Tinder log
Karo was single for eight years and had actually written off her great love. She found what she was looking for on Tinder – including a love story ready for film.
Tinder turns ten this year. Of the star spoke to people about their experiences with online dating. This is the love story of Karoline, 35, and Sven, 42. Their wedding rings say it all. “Super Like” and “It’s a match” can be read on them.
“Not looking for Superman, Clark Kent would be ok” – that was what my Tinder profile said at the time, although I had been single for over eight years and admittedly quite disillusioned. Until I suddenly got a so-called “Super Like”, which, unlike everyone else, at least had a great speech: “I’m more the “Peter Parker” type, is that okay too?” At that time I was in the car near Kaiserslautern. As a sales representative for a German shoe brand, I actually wanted to pay a visit to the store in Saarbrücken, only to find out in the car park that the Assumption of Mary is a public holiday in Saarland. Sven, that’s the name of my match, had the day off and spent the morning in bed. I must have gotten on his radar then.
After that we wrote back and forth a lot, but actually we didn’t know anything about each other. Once I was in a really bad mood because I had taken a friend to the airport and I hadn’t been on vacation for what felt like ages. He, too, has just been transferred by a friend who actually wanted to travel with him. And so, just for fun, we said to each other: “Well, if things go well on the first date, then we can go on vacation together.”
On the first date there was currywurst and beer
We had the first date about three weeks after our match. He invited me very romantically to currywurst and beer – after all, anyone can go to an Italian restaurant in a chic way. The date lasted about six hours and suddenly he said to me: “Well, I have a really good feeling about us. How’s the holiday going now?” At first I thought he was joking or thinking much further into the future, but I asked when he would have time. He suggested a month and a half later, but it was clear to me: If we don’t book promptly, then it won’t work either. So I nailed him to going on vacation with me a week later. Ten days away with a man I just hugged, nothing more. So I put everything on one card.
When I transferred my share of the money to him, I still hoped that he wouldn’t run away with the money. When we then took the train to the airport together on the day of the trip, I kept thinking to myself: “What, what, what are you doing right now? All good spirits have left you!” And I noticed the tension in him, too. At the airport one of us – I don’t even remember who it was – came up with the idea that we could have a glass of wine. Luckily that lightened the mood a bit – until we got to the hotel. There they thought that we were on our honeymoon and were immediately greeted with “Mr. and Mrs.” welcomed. It was terribly uncomfortable for me, but Sven stayed relaxed and said: “Well, it can go that fast”.
He proposed to her on Tinder’s anniversary
On vacation it actually sparked relatively quickly. To an outsider we sure looked like a newlywed couple, but to me it was so surreal. I’ve sat there so many times looking at this man and I was like, “What’s the catch?” If I had looked at us from the outside, I probably would have found us disgusting. But at some point the question arose as to when we would see each other again after our return – after all, he lived in Saarbrücken and I in Mainz. It almost looked like we wouldn’t see each other again anytime soon, because he was invited to a wedding in the Allgäu. But he decided without further ado that he would just take me there with him – that was our third date, so it was actually sealed that we would become a couple. Six months later I broke up all the tents in Mainz and moved in with him.
Well, four years later we’re married ourselves. On the fourth Tinderversary, i.e. the day on which we “matched”, we applied and we got married in November of the same year. We can remember the day on which we got to know each other well: After all, Assumption Day is always on August 15th and we always have that day off. We never made a secret of the fact that we met on Tinder: We even had the words “Super Like” and “It’s a match” engraved on our wedding rings.
