NDW star Markus recently celebrated his second wedding anniversary with his wife Yvonne. The two are still “incredibly happy”.
NDW star Markus (62) and his wife Yvonne König (51) said yes in July 2020. Just a few days ago, the two celebrated their second wedding anniversary. “It was the best decision ever,” enthuses the singer, whose real name is Markus Mörl, in an interview with spot on news. “We are incredibly happy. Yvonne and I just fit together perfectly.”
His wife is also his manager. The couple’s work and private life go hand in hand: “We don’t want to separate it at all,” says the singer. “We get along with it perfectly. It’s a great fit, also because we’re rarely apart for long.” He also adds: “Besides, she’s also a great singer who also sings on my new album.”
Markus misses “the beautiful cars” from the 80s
His long player “Life loves me… and I love life” will be released on July 15th. Not only wife Yvonne is involved. Markus’ son plays his younger self. “I thought it was great that he took part in the video,” says the 62-year-old. “He’s always an inspiration for me with his modern music.” He is “not supported at all” by his son in his music career. But “it’s not his job,” emphasizes Markus.
In the song he wishes to go back to the 80s – the decade in which he himself celebrated his greatest successes to date. Markus particularly misses “the nice cars and the jackets with shoulder pads, they always cut a fine figure”.
“I want fun” celebrates its 40th anniversary
2022 is a special year for the singer as he celebrates the 40th anniversary of his hit “I Want Fun”. The single, released in 1982, landed at number one in the German charts and is still considered one of the best-known songs of the Neue Deutsche Welle. “I think the song is still a good motto for life today,” says Markus. “Especially in challenging times.”
The anniversary will be celebrated in a big way, he continues: “With numerous performances with our fans on stage.” The appointment calendar is “full to the brim”. His fans are “incredibly important” to the “I want fun” interpreter, after all they made me a little bit what I am”.
Neue Deutsche Welle is “unforgotten”
Markus is still proud of his NDW successes – he landed another hit with “KleineFlashlight brenn'”. Many stars of the time later distanced themselves from their own songs. Why do you no longer want to be associated with the Neue Deutsche Welle? “I have no idea,” answers Markus. “Why aren’t they just proud of the successes they had back then? Fans who like the songs can’t understand that.”
The Neue Deutsche Welle was “unforgotten, the legacy keeps coming up”. She was “a door opener for me and many other artists to this day”.
Markus not only drew attention to himself with his music career, but also with appearances on television. The wedding of the singer and his Yvonne, for example, could be seen live on RTLzwei. In 2017 they took part in the “Summer House of the Stars”. Which show would still appeal to him? “It always depends on the show,” says the 62-year-old. “By the way, I’m quite a good dancer…” he adds meaningfully.
Markus celebrates his birthday with Marky Ramone
In addition to the release of his album, Markus Mörl is also celebrating a special birthday on July 15: drummer Marky Ramone of the legendary US band Ramones will be 70 years old. “I’m a self-confessed Ramones fan,” says Markus.
The singer “I once covered a song by the band. Somehow he (Marky Ramone, editor’s note) noticed that I produced this title in German. I can now perform it with him.” It was the first personal meeting of the two. For his 70th birthday, the NDW star wishes the drummer “health, rock’n’roll and a long life”.
