Tinder turns ten this year. Of the star spoke to people about their experiences with online dating. This is the story of Fiona*, 23, and Phillip*, 23, who entered a polygamous relationship through the platform.
Tinder has changed the dating life of many singles forever. It’s not just individuals who are searching here. Many couples also want to win a third person for their love life. We are one of them.
Back to the beginning: We both met on Tinder four years ago. We found the other person’s profile exciting and had a match. After a few short chat messages, we made a meeting and watched a bad alien action film with a message that was far too transparent. But after the first few minutes it was no longer about the plot. We both felt from day one that we had a special bond. After our first date, we met again the next evening. It went on like that for a wonderful week in late summer until we started a relationship.
After a while, Philip asked me if I could imagine integrating a third partner into our love life. At first I was a little surprised and confused by the suggestion, but I was also curious and open to trying new things. We talked about the idea again and again over the next two years, and at some point we created a profile together. The response was immediately overwhelming.
The common love life on Tinder
Couples who go looking for a partner together via Tinder have long since ceased to be anything special. Unlike many others, however, we did not hide. While some couples only flaunt their toned bodies in profile or leave the search image completely black, we remained authentic and showed who we are. We had a lot of matches and Phillip wrote with a few women. After all, the app was installed on his phone. To my own surprise, that didn’t make me jealous. When we had a match, we would talk openly about what we liked or found weird about the person.
The dating life on Tinder as a couple is very different from that of an individual. Phillip says our profile has boosted his response rate significantly. It was an absurd situation, after all, in most cases the interest was no longer on his side, but on the other side. Even though many women asked him if they could even go on a date with me. He always put up with it well.
However, single dates were out of the question. If a woman got in touch that we liked, we simply opened a Whatsapp group and chatted as a threesome. We then met some of the women for a cozy evening in a bar and sometimes took our date home with us. We both had a lot of fun during this time, but the strict distance rules in the pandemic thwarted our plans out of nowhere. Suddenly we would not only have had to answer to the skeptical looks of our circle of friends, but also to the authorities if we had met a third person. We haven’t been on a date since Corona.
This kind of polygamous relationship would have been very uncomfortable for both of us five or six years ago. Today I can only recommend it to every curious couple. There are just a few basic rules to follow: take your time, keep your exit options open, and don’t pressure your partner. Of course, such a constellation includes the possibility of creating jealousy or ending a relationship. If you communicate sincerely, nothing should stand in the way of happiness as a threesome.

There was also a Tinder basic rule at Annalena. In Germany she looked for men, in the semester abroad in Sweden for women. A train ride changed that. Here is her story.
