Corona pandemic: RKI: Only a few infections brought in from abroad

So far this summer, travelers from abroad have only made up a very small proportion of all new corona infections recorded.

So far this summer, travelers from abroad have only made up a very small proportion of all new corona infections recorded.

For example, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) was last reported to 1036 cases within four weeks in which a probable infection abroad is assumed, as can be seen from the RKI status report on Tuesday evening. That is about two percent of all reported cases. “This shows that travel-related cases play a subordinate role in the current infection process,” writes the RKI.

However, in 42 percent of all cases there was no information on the likely country of infection. In its report, the RKI does not provide any information on the countries from which infected people entered, nor does the report differentiate between variants.

In the virus variant report last Wednesday, the RKI wrote with a view to the spreading delta variant that the most frequently mentioned countries in connection with introductions were Afghanistan (19 cases), Russia (16) and Italy (14).

Meanwhile, the federal government expects that it will be able to deliver on its corona vaccination promise earlier than planned. The promise to be able to make everyone a vaccination offer by the end of summer in September will already be fulfilled in the first half of summer, probably in July, it said on Tuesday from government circles in Berlin. In July it will be possible to offer 17 to 18 million first vaccinations with an mRNA vaccine. The demand was probably more than met, it said.

According to the information, the infrastructure of the corona vaccination centers is to be maintained in a “slimmed-down version” beyond September 30. It is less about the “big tankers” like exhibition halls, but more about “speedboats” like the mobile vaccination teams. These would probably be needed in autumn for booster vaccinations, for example in care facilities.
