It was supposed to be a great reconciliation, but then the British reality star and her boyfriend crashed their car 70 meters. Yazmin Oukhellou now spoke about the fall and her desperate attempt to save her lover.
On the way home after a party, “The Only Way Is Essex” star Yazmin Oukhellou nodded off in the passenger seat while her boyfriend Jake McLean, 33, was behind the wheel. She woke up with a jolt. The Mercedes had already left the road and fell 70 meters. Yazmin Oukhellou now spoke to the “Sun”: “We fell for what felt like an eternity. It felt like I was turning in a washing machine – always around in circles. Then it finally stopped.”
Endless fall
“The car was upside down. The sunroof was open and my right arm was just stuck behind my back and under the roof.”
The accident had slashed an artery and the young woman was bleeding to death. “I felt my arm completely covered with blood. It was like lying in a bathtub, there was so much blood around me.” At that moment, Oukhellou didn’t know that her friend hadn’t survived the impact. “I just thought: well, I can either lie still and bleed to death or break my arm to save us – I had no choice.”
Full of panic and adrenaline, she tore her arm out of the rubble. Everything was covered in blood, she reported, Oukhellou had to hold his broken arm with his left hand and climbed towards the street and screamed for help. She believed all was lost because it seemed they had crashed in the middle of the wilderness. But then a light came to her. At first she thought it was a hallucination, thinking the light was near death, but it was a flashlight. A man walking his dog heard them. The stranger bandaged her arm with his shirt. But Oukhellou wanted to see her boyfriend, Jake. “I said don’t worry about me – let’s go to my friend, my friend is down there.”
help came too late
By the time they reached him, she had lost her pulse. Then an ambulance came. The doctors didn’t want to tell the woman at that moment that her boyfriend was dead. They told her that he needed to be taken to another hospital. “I think they already knew it, but to me it’s still like it’s not real.”
The ex-couple met in Turkey to reconcile. They spent a wonderful day together, said Yazmin Oukhellou. Then they dressed up in the evening and went to the bar. “Everything was perfect – just as I had hoped.”
On the way back to her house high in the mountains, she fell asleep. That’s the only reason she survived. “The doctor told me it made my body more relaxed.” In the hospital, she was called “Angel” because she survived the Stutz on the spot. “I always wonder why my partner had to die while I survived.”
Yazmin Oukhellou had previously lost loved ones to whom she was attached. “But I’ve never lost anyone I loved like that. Jake is the only person I’ve ever felt love like that for. I loved him so much and that’s why I’ve traveled all over the world, to be with him.”
