Honor for Marcus Mumford: Steven Spielberg grabbed his cell phone for his song “Cannibal” and shot the first music video of his career.
Steven Spielberg (75) has directed numerous major productions. These include “Jurassic Park” (1993), “Catch Me If You Can” (2002) and most recently “West Side Story” (2021). A music video has not been one of his projects so far. He now changed that for “Mumford & Sons” singer Marcus Mumford (35). For the single of the musician’s first solo album, Spielberg filmed a special music video – on his smartphone.

He published a photo showing Spielberg sitting on an office chair in front of the singer. “On Sunday, July 3rd, in a high school gymnasium in New York, Steven Spielberg directed his first music video, in one take, on his phone,” the 35-year-old wrote.
Spielberg’s and Mumford’s wives were also involved in the shooting
The video, , was filmed by Spielberg as a “one-shot video”, i.e. as a single continuous recording without cuts. Kate Capshaw (68), Spielberg’s wife, was “the almighty dolly pusher” during the shooting, Mumford continued. In the photo, she can be seen moving Spielberg’s office chair. Mumford also credited Capshaw as producer and art director.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the support from those around me to bring this music to you guys and I can’t express my gratitude enough,” Mumford continued. “When people get it, it blows my mind. Kate and Steven just got it and I can’t thank them enough for that.”
Another photo shows Marcus Mumford together with Capshaw and Spielberg as well as producer and videographer Kristie Macosko Krieger (45) and Mumford’s wife Carey Mulligan (37). The actress was also involved in the video shoot. She was in charge of costume and sound, according to Mumford.
