pearl jam performed at the weekend music festival lollapalooza paris in a context of a heat wave with peaks well above 40 degrees Celsius in southern Europe.
Firefighters in southwestern France have been battling since July 12 to contain the massive blazes, at a time when the UK recorded the highest local temperature on record on Tuesday.
“Those who work so hard to put on the shows, as well as those who give their precious time and energy to attend… As a band, we are deeply sorry and have tried to find options to continue playing,” Pearl Jam said.
“And Ed wants to play. There’s just no throat available right now (…) So we feel very, very deeply.”
The band said the tickets would be refunded. Wednesday’s concert in Vienna was part of Pearl Jam’s European tour.
Pearl Jam confirmed that the Prague concert was also canceled
The band confirmed through their social networks that the concert scheduled for tomorrow in Prague will also have to be canceled as Vedder has not yet fully recovered. Below is the statement from Pearl Jam.
“We were hopeful that Ed would recover in time to perform tomorrow. He has seen a doctor in Prague and is continuing treatments for his vocal chords, but unfortunately, no voice is available yet. The effects on his throat from the last show at outdoors are still too brutal.
We again send our sincerest apologies to all those who have worked so hard to put on the show. Even greater apologies to those hoping to attend. We have always had memorable shows here and we are thinking of you in our extreme disappointment.
You can rest assured that we are doing everything we can to help remedy the situation. Again, we are very sorry. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. Thank you very much for your understanding.”
