The Government protects five Favio films in legal litigation

Through Decree 423/2022, published yesterday in the Official Gazette, President Alberto Fernández declared the negative, positive and corresponding sound negative material supports of these films to be Assets of National Artistic Interest, which are currently in judicial custody in the City Bank. “The conservation of the material support of these goods is of special interest to the Argentine Republic as a testimony of national film production and, in particular, of the renowned director Leonardo Favio,” said Fernández. The declaration had been proposed by the National Commission for Monuments, Places and Historic Assets during a meeting of the Ministry of Culture body last May. To support the decision, the Government recalled that the 1980 UNESCO General Conference established the Recommendation on the safeguarding and conservation of moving images, which were considered “an expression of the cultural personality of indigenous peoples”. and that, due to their educational, cultural, artistic, scientific and historical value, they form an integral part of the cultural heritage of a nation”.

“It is necessary for each State to take adequate complementary measures aimed at guaranteeing the safeguarding and conservation for posterity of that particularly fragile part of its cultural heritage, in the same way that other forms of cultural property are safeguarded and preserved as a source of enrichment for present and future generations”, said the United Nations agency on that occasion.

Leonardo Favio, who died in 2012, was also the director of other films such as “Juan Moreira”, “The romance of Aniceto and Francisca” and “Perón, symphony of feeling”.
