Her brief testimony in court caused a stir at the end of May. Kate Moss defended her ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp via video link. Now she explains why she decided to do it.
It was only a few seconds that Kate Moss was connected via video link to the court in Fairfax, Virginia. But they had an effect.
Kate Moss takes a stand on Johnny Depp
Moss was interviewed by Johnny Depp’s attorney, Ben Chew, who mentioned a trip Depp and Moss made to Jamaica. There she slipped on a staircase, Moss recalled. “I screamed because I was in pain. He [Johnny Depp] came back and carried me into the room,” she said, adding that Depp organized medical help for her.
Chew asked: “Did he ever push you down a flight of stairs in the course of your relationship?” he wanted to know from the famous witness. “No, he never pushed me, kicked me, or threw me down a flight of stairs,” Moss replied emphatically. Moss was only summoned as a witness because Amber Heard had previously reported on the witness stand about an alleged stair climb.
She believes in the truth
Speaking to BBC 4’s Desert Island Discs, Moss has now revealed why testifying for her ex-boyfriend was important to her. “I believe in truth, and I believe in fairness and justice,” she said, before going straight to Depp. “I know the truth about Johnny [Depp]. I know he never pushed me down the stairs. I had to tell that truth,” she explained, comparing it to her defense of John Galliano.
The designer was sentenced to a suspended fine of 6,000 euros in 2011 for racist abuse. Kate Moss stood by him at the time. “I know that John Galliano is not a bad person – he had a drinking problem and people change. People are not themselves when they drink and they say things that they would never say if they were sober,” explained her in an interview.
