Prince Andrew is putting the monarchy in danger, perhaps more than any Meghan and Harry scandal. And yet the Queen often shows mercy with the accused royal. Why is that?
Bad press, a colossal interview and revelations that put the British monarchy in danger: No, there is no mention of the royal dropouts, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan. Even if one could assume so, given the great attention that has been paid to them. Prince Andrew is arguably the royal with the greatest risk potential for the monarchy.

A few weeks ago, a civil lawsuit was brought against him for the sexual abuse of a minor. The alleged victim, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, claims to have been referred by Jeffrey Epstein for sexual services to Andrew when she was under 18 years old.
Prince Andrew reacted shortly afterwards and traveled to Scotland, more precisely: to Balmoral Castle, where his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, resides for the summer. At his side is ex-wife Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson, who supports Andrew. As the magazine “The Daily Beast” reported, the lawyers of the British royal family are said to have instructed the press by means of a letter not to take photos when the royals arrive there. The letter reached the media the day after the lawsuit against Andrew was filed. And so the impression arose that the monarch wanted to protect her son – once again.
The monarch’s favorite child

Royal expert Penny Junor agrees that Andrew’s special relationship with the Queen dates back to her early motherhood. Because Prince Charles and Princess Anne were raised by a nanny because the Queen is said to have been a “pretty nervous new mother”. With Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, she relaxed and paid more attention to them, the experts explain.
She turned a blind eye
But Prince Andrew is also said to be different to his mother than, for example, his brother Prince Charles. The latter “puts her on a pedestal; Andrew has a more traditional, child-like relationship with her,” explains Junor.
And so the Queen turned a blind eye for years when Prince Andrew’s affairs hit the headlines and he was nicknamed “Randy Andy”. Even the public divorce from Sarah Ferguson did not seem to burden the queen sustainably. Very different from her husband, Prince Philip, who hated Ferguson until his death and did not think it right that the divorced should continue to live together on the same property.
Andrew takes advantage of his mother’s love

The journalist is certain that the Queen uses two standards within her family. “Sadly, while the Queen has taken a pretty tough stance on Megxit, she has given Andrew a free pass when it comes to Epstein – a developing scandal that has the potential to cause irreparable damage to the monarchy,” he says .
Charles could take action
Prince Charles is likely to stand by his brother differently. It is known that the heir to the throne would like to tighten, downsize, the British monarchy. “Once Charles is on the throne, I’m pretty sure Andrew will be completely in the shadows. He won’t have any other choice,” says Andersen.
Until then, Mutti will keep her protective hand over her son – if the courts don’t hold him accountable beforehand.
