The Queen is said to have invited Harry and Meghan to her summer residence, Balmoral Castle, but it looks like the two won’t be there. The reasons are now speculated.
For the Queen, these are the loveliest weeks of the year: Elizabeth II traditionally vacations in the Scottish Highlands from mid-July to the end of September. Then she resides at Balmoral Castle, which has been in royal private ownership since 1852 and has since been used by the British monarchs as a summer residence. During her 10-week stay, the Queen will receive frequent visits from various family members. Balmoral is “the most beautiful place in the world,” Princess Eugenie recently gushed.
As the British newspaper “The Sun” reports, Elizabeth II is said to have invited her grandson Prince Harry and his family to spend the summer holidays in Scotland instead of in the USA. But there are now differences about this ominous invitation. Harry and Meghan did not receive an invitation, several anonymous sources claim against the US portal “Page Six”. The Sussexes have decided to stay in California to prepare for the release of Harry’s biography. There’s no specific release date for the highly anticipated book just yet, but it’s expected to be out this fall.
Harry and Meghan were last at Balmoral in 2018
In Great Britain, of course, Harry and Meghan’s absence is seen a little differently. “I’m sure the Queen invited them, but I’m not surprised they aren’t coming,” British royal expert Phil Dampier told The Sun. With their refusal, they would have snubbed the queen – as they had done a few times before with their behavior.
“If they really wanted to reconcile with their families, they would end Harry’s book deal, stop making a documentary, visit Meghan’s father before he dies in Mexico and return to the UK,” Dampier fumed. Only to then say in the next sentence that that won’t happen because “they want to keep making money and doing what they think is right, but which isn’t right for their families”.
Harry and Meghan last traveled to Balmoral in the summer of 2018, the year of their wedding. In 2019, they turned down the Queen’s invitation on the pretext that their son Archie, who was only a few months old at the time, was too small to travel to Scotland. Even then, many Britons were angry, because Harry and Meghan did not travel to Balmoral, but did travel to the Côte d’Azur and Ibiza in a private jet.
