The massive price differences between fixed and mobile networks for calls to 0137 and 0180 numbers could soon be a thing of the past.
With effect from December 1, the Federal Network Agency is considering stipulating that the prices for calls from mobile networks must correspond to the prices for calls from landlines, as it announced on Wednesday.
“Today’s price differentiation between fixed and mobile networks is no longer objectively justified. It is time to adjust prices here, ”said the president of the supervisory authority, Jochen Homann, in Bonn.
The 0137 numbers are used, for example, in viewer votes in television programs such as “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” or in competitions in order to be able to deal with large numbers of calls in a short time. The 0180 numbers are used by service providers such as hotlines. The price differences between calls from the landline network and cellular networks are often considerable. According to the network agency, a call to a number with the area code 01803 currently costs 3.9 cents per minute from the landline network, and from mobile networks it is usually 42 cents per minute.
