In the summer of 2014, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got married at the Château Miraval winery, and a bitter dispute has now broken out over the property in southern France. In February this year, Pitt filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife for selling her stake in the property to Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler without his consent. Pitt accuses Jolie of deliberately wanting to harm him, since Shefler is considered a shady businessman with ties to President Vladimir Putin.
Jolie’s attorneys came up with a variety of ways to personally deliver Pitt to a subpoena. Since the 58-year-old won Best Supporting Actor at the 2020 gala, legal experts assumed Pitt would appear again. But this year he decided not to visit the event.
Jolie’s lawyers also wanted to catch Pitt at the Oscars
After the missed opportunity, officials reportedly wanted to make a second attempt to hand over the documents to Brad Pitt at the Oscars in late March. But this time, the actor’s lawyers stepped in first. Apart from that, Brad Pitt didn’t show up at the Academy Awards this year either. The documents must have reached him in a less spectacular way.
The fact that private forms are handed over at a public event is not as far-fetched as it first sounds. That’s exactly what happened to actress Olivia Wilde at the end of April. The 38-year-old was on stage in Las Vegas presenting her new film, Don’t Worry Darling, when a woman walked up to her and handed her an envelope. This was clearly visible to all with the words “Personal and confidential”. Inside the envelope were custody documents for actor Jason Sudeikis, with whom Wilde has two children. The couple separated in 2020 after nine years together.
The dispute over Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s winery has not yet been finally resolved. Recently, the 47-year-old won a first leg in a Los Angeles court, when a judge ruled that Pitt must turn over business records for his share of the winery, which he had been withholding.
