Flirt Strategies: If she’s funnier than him, it’s unlikely to be permanent

In a study, psychologists tested 40 flirting strategies. It was checked which are most effective and which properties are not well received in the data.

Almost 1000 people from the USA and Norway were interviewed for a study by psychologists from the Technical University of Norway on the subject of flirting strategies. They all received one of four anonymous questionnaires, where both the effect of certain flirting tactics on the study participant and his gender were taken into account.

With the help of actors, the psychologists examined the effect on the protagonists in terms of romantic and sexual signals as well as the willingness to enter into short and long-term relationships. The researchers were able to come up with interesting theories based on the answers, which also support existing research.

A man has to come up with more flirting strategies to get her into bed than a woman

In the behavior of women when they first get to know each other, it was found that if they are looking for a short, sexual connection, physical contact with the man of desire is enormously helpful in order to achieve their goal. Here, however, a small touch is not to be understood clearly enough, it is helpful to really go all out with this goal, for example by snuggling up. It was a bit more complicated for men because, according to the study, women are generally more demanding than men when it comes to choosing their sexual partner. Besides physicality, it was more effective for him if he also smiled, showed interest in her life, gave compliments and made her laugh. This increases the chances that the man will reach his opponent’s goal.

A very interesting aspect of the study results is that a strong sense of humor and cheeky sayings in women tend not to lead to stable and long-term relationships. Unlike men. With them, humor is interpreted positively by women and they move closer to the status of potential partners. However, laughing or giggling at someone’s jokes has been an effective flirting tactic for both genders. According to the study, men also use generosity to signal women that they are more interested in something long-term. They should also place their intentions in the conversation as best they can.

The study was also able to show that a well-known flirting strategy is still successful: maintaining eye contact.
