How New York pulsates in the Innviertel

“In music, time is represented by rhythm, space by melody and harmonies. Music and architecture go hand in hand,” says Gernot Bernroider. The percussionist invites you to his hometown of Mattighofen from August 17th to 21st to the series of concerts and workshops at the eleventh “New York City Music Marathon”, which this time builds a bridge to architecture in the form of the traveling exhibition “architektur zeitraum 2010 bis 2020 ” by the architects of Upper Austria.

Prelude for ears and eyes

73 examples of the state’s impressive architecture can be seen not only on the opening evening (17 August) in the town hall (and pavilion of the music school). The fact that the pictures can be admired on music stands is “a coincidence”, albeit an excellent one, says Bernroider, who will be playing at the start with his “Culturessence” and guests from New York.

“Transplanting the diversity of the musical melting pot of New York and the spirit of intensive music making to the countryside” – this is the mission of the Innviertler, who himself lived in New York for 22 years until 2016, in order to “create the pulsating energy”. to share with all music enthusiasts in the Innviertel. The heart of the music marathon are the multi-day workshops. One of the lecturers for those interested at all levels, from two years of experience on the instrument to (prospective) students, is Chanda Rule: “It’s about developing trust and self-confidence,” says the vocal acrobat, who will be performing in the “Jazz, Soul & Funk Night” (20. 8.) makes you sit up and take notice.

Clear the stage for the Upper Austrian Youth Jazz Orchestra at the “Big Band Night” (19 August). Young scholarship holders of the music marathon will play in the “JazzBrunch” (21 August). The German guitarist and singer Kai Strauss and his band will be guests at the “Blues Power Night” (18 August).

Family music day in the park

“Bringing parents and children into contact with music” is Bernroider’s wish behind the “Family Music Day” (August 20th), which again invites to drum circles, singing and handicrafts in the city park.

A festival tip are the jam sessions after the concerts from 10 p.m. in the Jam Rock Café, where lecturers and workshop participants play together. (cash)
