The conditions under which the premiere of “Don Gil, the deceived fraudster” took place on the open-air stage at the theater summer in the Kulturpark Traun on Thursday evening were not ideal.
The free troupe “die theaterachse” performed the comedy of mistaken identity “Don Gil, the deceived swindler” directed by Mathias Schuh and based on the Spanish dramatist and clergyman Tirso de Molina (16th/17th century). The evening wind initially dampened the voices of the spirited ensemble, which also had to play against the background noise of the nearby guest garden.
Demanded but highly motivated, the performers countered this with a piquant story: that Don Roman (Raphael Steiner) abandoned “his” Donna Juana (Lydia Nassall) in order to marry the wealthy Donna Ines, the beautifully resolute Karoline Schragen Juana don’t sit on yourself. She follows him and disguises herself with the very false identity that Roman uses to approach Ines – that of the rich Don Gil. Its distinguishing feature, green trousers, will be graced by two women and three men (costumes: Rafaela Wenzel), who impress with their presence and versatility: Steiner as a novel that is truly haunted by good spirits, Silvia Schauer from the double servant and the wonderfully resistant “Clärchen “, Julian Dorner as haunting Don Alfonso and above all Nassall and Daniel Pink. She designed three roles with esprit and singing, setting the tone – one would like to hear more of Sophia Schuh’s music. He convinced as a smart Viennese servant Marcel with Meidlinger “L”.
They deliver amusement. The density for punchline fireworks that such a piece contains did not come up.
