2G or 3G model: Hamburg is taking a new special route with an option model
2G or 3G? While Germany was discussing this, the Hamburg Senate simply decided on a compromise solution: With the “2G option model”, restaurateurs and event organizers are allowed to voluntarily limit their services to vaccinated persons and genesis. In return, they are released from corona protection requirements that are no longer required. You can then, for example, let in more visitors or offer a free choice of seats without mandatory distance requirements.

As one of the first Hamburg celebrity restaurateurs, Stefan Henssler has now spoken briefly, but clearly: Tested guests will continue to be welcome in his restaurants. The reactions to his post are mixed: many users announce that they will continue to visit his restaurants in the future. But other comments also say that “2G would be responsible”. One user even considers a general test requirement to be useful: “People who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered can also transmit the virus. It would only be logical if these groups were then also tested in order to be able to spend a safe evening in your restaurant.”
The Hamburg option model, however, is welcomed by the event industry. The President of the Federal Association of the Concert and Event Industry, Jens Michow, would even like to see the model implemented nationwide, as he told the dpa: “We hope that the Hamburg 2G model is a blueprint for all other federal states.” As long as there are capacity restrictions and distance rules, events make no economic sense.
