The millionaire figure that Kevin Spacey will have to pay the producers of House of Cards

Spacey starred in five seasons of “House of Cards” until several allegations of sexual harassment against co-workers were reported by the media.

“MRC was not aware of this type of conduct by Spacey with members of the show’s cast or crew,” the producer said in one of the court documents.

The production company maintains that after the complaints of sexual harassment and assault in 2017, it suspended the actor and ordered an investigation that determined that “Spacey broke stipulations in acting and executive production agreements that set standards of conduct in the workplace, including breaching MRC’s harassment policy.”

An arbitration judge ruled in October 2020 that Spacey should pay $29.5 million, in addition to entertainment expenses, to the production company that had to redesign the series due to the departure of Frank Underwood, the main character of the series played by the two-time Oscar winner. The series of palace intrigues was shortened and ended.

The actor had asked the court to invalidate the millionaire compensation, arguing that the arbitration judge incurred procedural failures when assessing the damages.

However, the judge Mel Red Recana, of the superior court of Los Angeles, ratified the decision, ordering the actor to comply with the compensation.

Spacey denies all the accusations of harassment against him, which slowed down his award-winning career and corresponded with the emergence of the #MeToo movement, which was born from the case of the almighty producer Harvey Weinstein.

In another case last month, Spacey, 63, pleaded not guilty in a London court to sexual harassment allegations made by three men dating back more than a decade.
