The Borges Cultural Center celebrates the 123rd anniversary of Jorge Luis Borges

On Wednesday 24 it will be available on the YouTube channel of the Borges Cultural Center virtual dialogue “The mystical experience of Borges”of which they participate Mary Kodama (president of the Jorge Luis Borges International Foundation), Luce Lopez Baralt (University of Puerto Rico) and lucas adur (UBA).

At 5:30 p.m., in the Alberto Williams Auditorium, the conference will take place “Library Borges” by Laura Rosato and Germán Álvarez from the National Library.

Later, at 7:00 p.m., at the Astor Piazzolla Auditorium, Reader and Reading Day will be celebrated with live music by Alexandra Sartore Y Lucia Herreraa poetry reading by Nacha Guevara and words of Mary Kodama and of Tristan Bauer.

Thursday 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium mercedes sosa will be the conference “A grocery store in Cuchilla Negra and a metal that is not of this world”, by Julio Schvartzmann. In the same auditorium but at 7:00 p.m., the conference will take place Borges and literary history. (How could Argentine literature be founded)”in charge of Sergio Pastormerlo.

On Friday 26 at 5:30 p.m. there will be a collective reading of the author and at 7:00 p.m., in the Mercedes Sosa Auditorium, the conference will be given “Before the book. Borges in newspapers and magazines”in charge Sylvia Saitta.

The second and third part of the collective readings will be on Saturday 27 and in that framework “A vindication of the false Basilides” and “Three versions of Judas” will be resumed. That same day, at 6:30 p.m., in the Mercedes Sosa Auditorium will take place the conference “Fables of author”, in charge of Annick Louis from the University of Franche-Comte.

Beyond the readings and conferences, those who come to the Borges Cultural Center they will be able to enjoy the photography exhibition “El atlas de Borges” in Pavilion I on the second floor. It is a series of photographs and texts belonging to the collection of María Kodama.

Atlas was Borges’ penultimate book, published in 1984 with the photographic collaboration of María Kodama. Paradoxically, the book contains photographs that the author never saw. His contribution to that “unity made of images and words” is literary.

In addition, on August 26 at 8:00 p.m. at the Astor Piazzola Auditorium, the concert will be held “Borges x 3” by the Oblique Company. The three central works of this concert -written by Nazareno Nigretti, Maximiliano Zelaya Cardoso and Jose Luis Garabito– were composed from the reading of three famous stories by Borges: “The secret miracle”, “The garden of forking paths” and “The circular ruins”.

Finally, on Saturday, August 27 and Sunday, August 28 at 3:00 p.m. and also at 5:00 p.m. in the Astor Piazzolla Auditorium, visitors will be able to see the play “Imaginary Beings of Borges” by Fernando Flores Maio with the address of Claudio Gallardo. It is a fun journey through “The Book of Imaginary Beings”, written by Borges in collaboration with Margaret Warrior. In this comedy they will meet a selection of those fantastic beings and divinities that have surprised the human species since ancient times, a delicate compilation of the strange living forms that fantasy has engendered throughout time and space. It is also the result of a co-production between the Cervantes National Theater and the Jorge Luis Borges International Foundation.
