Since 2019 she has been production manager at the biennial Schäxpir, the theater festival for young audiences in Upper Austria. The June 2023 edition will now be directed by Anja Lang, together with the artistic director duo Sara Ostertag and Julia Ransmayr. After Cornelia Lehner left the state service at the end of November 2021, cultural director Margot Nazzal looked for a successor. Lehner’s job, consisting of department and festival management, was divided between Lang and a second woman: As OÖN reported, Eva Malfent returned to the state in May after two years in the cultural department of the city of Linz and took over the department management.
“Anja Lang will start her 40-hour job in September, but will also be responsible for other event formats in addition to Schäxpir,” says Nazzal in an interview with OÖN. Among other things, Lang had already designed the most recent ceremony for the award ceremony for the state’s stage art prize.
Production manager in Salzburg
Linz native Lang studied theatre, film and media studies in Vienna before she worked in the artistic office and as an assistant director at the Landestheater. The 35-year-old is currently working as production manager at the Salzburg Festival and there with the production “Reigen” based on Arthur Schnitzler, directed by Yana Ross. Ten authors – from Lydia Haider, Leïla Slimani to Jonas Hassen Khemiri and Lukas Bärfuss – had written dialogues to breathe new and contemporary life into Schnitzler’s most famous stage play. The last performance will take place on August 11th at the Salzburg Central, from September 17th the production will move to the Zurich Schauspielhaus. (pg)
