Charlène and Albert of Monaco: chronology of their separation

In February of this year, Princess Charlène and Prince Albert appeared together for the last time at an appointment in Monaco. Since then, the couple has lived between two continents.

In one of her last public appearances at the side of her husband, Princess Charlène was dressed completely in black. At the end of January this year, the couple attended a service in honor of the Monegasque patron saint, Sainte Dévote. The 43-year-old hid her face behind sunglasses and a mask, her dress reached almost to the floor, a long coat and black gloves over it. Only a pink beret cheered up the dreary outfit a little. It looked as if Charlène was hiding – from the life that she has led in Monaco since she married Prince Albert II, the heir to the throne.

A month later, in February, Charlène and Albert went to another sporting event in the Principality – but that was also the case on the couple’s dates so far. Because since March Charlène has been on another continent, in her home country South Africa. She originally went there to support a project run by her foundation that works to protect rhinos. A maximum of twelve days were planned for the trip, as the princess recently revealed in an interview. There is a recording of her at the memorial service for Goodwill Zwelithini. The King of the Zulu died on March 12th of this year. Prince Albert, meanwhile, attended appointments in Monaco alone.

At the beginning of April, Charlène published a photo on her Instagram account in which she can be seen dyeing Easter eggs with Albert and the children. The Princess does not reveal where the picture was taken in her comment, but she does in South Africa. More snapshots followed in May, showing Albert and the twins Gabriella and Jacques visiting Charlène’s homeland. Because the palace had meanwhile announced that the Monegasque country mother was suffering from a severe ENT infection and could not return to Europe for the time being.

Albert and Charlène celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary separately

At the latest when Albert and Charlène celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary separately on July 1st, the rumors of separation became louder and louder. “Happy wedding anniversary, Albert. Thank you for blessing me with our wonderful children,” wrote Charlène on Instagram and published a video that should document her love story with Albert.

In general, the palace went on a kitsch offensive to silence the persistent rumors of divorce. In nine chapters so far, the relationship between Albert and Charlène at that of the palace is honored. After Charlène’s most recent operation in South Africa, Prince Albert announced that he thought of his wife with tenderness. He wants to travel to South Africa again with the children to help them heal.

He did that too, but the photos that were taken during his stay sparked new speculation: At first, Charlène only posted photos of her twins and commented on daughter Gabriella’s unsuccessful haircut – then she published two pictures with Albert, but they did so made body language experts doubt the authenticity of the feelings. The fact that the princess left the Instagram snapshots with Albert uncommented speaks for itself.

Albert and the children are now back in the principality. Charlène is still in South Africa. It is not known whether the couple will make a joint appearance in Monaco this year. In an interview, the princess only announced that for health reasons she would not be allowed to fly again until the end of October at the earliest.
