From September 16, RTL newcomer Anna Kraft will host the Matchday show on TVNOW – everything about the Europa League and the newly created Europa Conference League. The 35-year-old is not only an experienced presenter, she is also a former athlete and mother of two. However, it cannot be taken for granted that she gave birth to two healthy children. Because Anna has now entrusted us with something that she has always kept secret up to now. She is terminally ill. She has multiple sclerosis.
Apparently pinched nerve brought it to light
One day, Kraft thinks she has pinched a nerve in her back and goes to the hospital. Countless tests later, the next day the doctors know what is wrong with her: Anna Kraft suffers from multiple sclerosis! But she learns to live with it. And has been for six and a half years. MS is a chronic inflammation of the nervous system that destroys nerve structures. This can trigger very different symptoms and is usually only recognized late.
But if you saw Anna Kraft like that, you wouldn’t think that she is seriously ill. “It’s just a disease that you can’t tell by looking,” she says. “When someone breaks a leg, most of the time you have a cast and then you see it, but with MS it’s something that is often not visible to outsiders.”
Anna Kraft gave birth to two healthy girls
Anna has been together with her boyfriend, soccer commentator Wolff-Christoph Fuss, for ten years. He is one of her greatest supports, especially when she is not doing so well. “Of course I also have my demon days, as I say so beautifully. I have ants in my arms and feet, it tingles, then it feels like falling asleep. Sometimes I have a bit of spasticity in my hand.” Despite multiple sclerosis, Anna Kraft was twice pregnant in the past three years and gave birth to two healthy girls.
Diagnosed early and treated consistently
Anna Kraft knows that this disease can have very different courses – at the moment, for example, compared to other patients, she does not need a walking aid. This is of course also due to the medication she is given, says neurologist Dr. Bernhard Hemmer, her attending physician: “Ms. Kraft already has an active disease, she was diagnosed very early and was consistently treated.” With her you can see that the medication could largely avoid relapses and new sources of inflammation in the brain.
Nonetheless, this disease is of course something that is always there and will not go away. It is really impressive how Anna Kraft masters it – with her the name obviously says it all – because what this woman definitely has is a lot of strength!
