“Long Live Love” was the name of the song with which Olivia Newton-John sang her way into the hearts of Eurovision viewers and a group of local police officers in Brighton, England, in 1974. Newton-John represented the host country Great Britain and finished fourth. The winners that evening were called ABBA. The Swedish band won with their song “Waterloo”.
So Olivia Newton-John was famous even before the role of her life. But the musical adaptation “Grease” alongside John Travolta gave her cult status four years after ESC. Newton-John plays Sandy, a daughter from a well-off family who meets Danny (Travolta) while on vacation and then bumps into her vacation sweetheart in high school. At the age of 73, the music and film icon died on August 8 surrounded by her family.
