“As part of our goal of making local art and culture available to the world, we will soon add Malba to Google Arts and Culture. We will work together with the museum to digitize the heritage of the Malba Collection through the Art Camera, which will soon can be viewed on our platform”, said Luis Sigal, Engineering Leader of Google Arts & Culture in the framework of the announcements made on the 15th anniversary of the company’s landing in the country.
The digitization work will begin with “Manifestación”, the iconic work of Rosario artist Antonio Berni to collaborate with the proposal “Manifestación en Foco”, a new online project of the museum in homage to one of the most emblematic creations of the artist and central piece of the 20th century Argentine art.
Made in 1934 and the foundation of New Realism, “Manifestation” is a tempera on burlap that Berni himself familiarly called “The Strike” and that summarizes his multiple artistic searches, a kind of “transportable” mural painting that reflects a group of immigrants, poor and unemployed, between rage and melancholy, who demand bread and work, always shockingly current.
The museum’s “Manifestation in focus” online platform proposes a dialogue between present and past through in-depth research on the material, historical and cultural aspects of the work that gives its title to the digital site, to analyze its impact on Argentine culture, through testimonies, vintage photographs, correspondence and publications.
This year, new partners also joined Arts & Culture, such as the Palacio Arruabarrena Municipal Regional Museum, located in Concordia, Entre Ríos, and the MIAPCR MUSEUM – Musée International d’Art Post-Contemporain en Résistance, in the city of Rosario.
The presence of Argentine institutions on the platform includes the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires, the José Hernández Popular Art Museum, the Pallarols Museum, the Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat Art Collection, Buenos Aires Graffiti, and the Historical and Numismatic Museum Héctor Carlos Janson of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic, among others.
In addition, there are collections developed together with the Favaloro Foundation and the AMIA.
The announcement was made as part of the celebrations for Google’s 15th anniversary in Argentina, which included the announcement of an investment commitment of 700,000 dollars for social projects in our country characterized by “innovation, talent and entrepreneurial spirit”, in words of Víctor Valle, general director of Google Argentina and first employee of the local office.
