“Los ilustres…” is a show in which there is a spontaneous dynamic: while one of them practices a monologue, talks with his partner and speaks to the public, the other draws the jokes and occurrences that come out in that exchange, often oblivious to the antics illustrated behind his back.
“When Montt is speaking, I am drawing and vice versa, so those drawings appear somewhat surprising to the one who is speaking, so there is a lot of space for all of us to laugh at each other; This aspect of this type of show amuses us a lot,” Liniers said about this performance that will be shown in the room located at Balcarce 460, in the Montserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires.
A giant canvas that challenges comedians and is projected on a wall, in unison, so that the public can also witness how the strokes build characters, stories and celebrate the humor that this time is born from the spoken word.
The range of themes and characters they cover ranges from Messi to Pope Francis and the characters of each one that their audience asks for.
“It’s a bit of illustration, a bit of stand-up and a weird hodgepodge,” Liniers described the show that they successfully premiered in Mexico City, an initiative that emerged a few years ago.
“We talked about it from time to time because Alberto would introduce me to my books and I would go to Chile and present his books in Argentina, and it would be more fun for us to make people laugh by talking about anything but our books and we realized that that chemistry could reach to function on stage”, he evoked.
His characters created a trend on the networks: Enriqueta, from Liniers, as a symbol of the #NiUnaMenos struggle, and Laura’s dinosaur, Montt’s little daughter, turned into Dino and Laura, one of the Chilean artist’s favorites.
For several years, Liniers has also been on stage to illustrate the songs of Kevin Johansen, his musician friend.
“Since I had already discovered that drawing more music had worked with Johansen -he slipped- I thought that drawing more stand up should work too. We started in Mexico and luckily it went well, so we said ‘let’s continue’”.
“We were touring Latin America and the plans are those, to continue enjoying traveling, everything is like an excuse that I also found to cross it with Montt: we did all this so that he would make me laugh and I would make him laugh” , Rounding.
