This is what CEO Martin Winkler expects. For a complete relaxation the American and Asian guests were missing. At the moment, travel agencies are booking holidays in the Mediterranean or inland – more than half of the hotel guests also come from Austria. The group (Austria Trend Hotels, Radisson Blu, Eurotours, Ruefa) is running a massive savings program – but at the same time is investing in new hotels.
Massive losses
The turnover slumped in the previous year by 62 percent from 615 million to 230 million euros. The result was a series of cost-cutting measures, including downsizing. A quarter of the around 100 travel agencies were closed – at Ruefa 100 of the 600 employees lost their jobs, the number of hotels operated was reduced from 25 to 22 and the board of directors was reduced from three to two people.
In addition, the headquarters in Vienna was relocated and the office space was reduced in size. In the course of the year, the event areas of Eurotours and Ruefa will also be bundled in one unit with a total of around 100 employees.
