Love, Divorce, Quarrel. The long-standing feud between Britney Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline is currently picking up speed again.
The relationship between Britney Spears (40) and Kevin Federline (44) started promisingly, ended surprisingly – and is still making headlines decades after they met. Now there is even a lawsuit.
It all started in 2004 when Federline worked as a dancer for Justin Timberlake (41) and met the pop princess one night. “We met at Joseph’s, a club in Hollywood,” Federline described their first meeting in 2008 in People magazine. “Our eyes met and that was it. We hit it off right away.” It continued stormy: three months later, the two married in California. He was 26 years old, she was 22. When asked about the best moment of their marriage, Federline once called the wedding itself. “It was a very, very happy, exciting moment.” Almost a year later, the couple’s first child, Sean Preston (16), was born, and the second, Jayden James (15), followed in 2006.
The divorce, the nervous breakdown, the alimony dispute
Eight weeks after the birth of their second son, Spears filed for divorce, the reason being the often-cited “irreconcilable differences.” The dancer and the pop star divorced and shared custody from then on. Until Britney suffered her world-famous nervous breakdown in 2008. Federline was given sole custody of the boys while Spears remained under her father’s control from then on.
The two appeared to be co-parenting until 2018, when Federline demanded a $20,000 increase in Spears’ monthly child support payments. They argued in court for months, with the result that Federline doubled the demand to $40,000 a month. In September 2018, they agreed to a $35,000 raise.
In 2019, Spears voluntarily sought mental health treatment for emotional issues. The couple then agreed to redistribute custody in the future. Federline should get 70 percent of the time with the kids, Spears 30.
A new life – and many nude pictures
With the end of her father’s guardianship in 2021, Spears’ life changed radically. And with it her Instagram account. The Princess of Pop also celebrates her newfound freedom on her profile – which the father of her children does not like to see. In an interview in August, he unpacked and claimed that the sons cut ties with their mother and declined the invitation to their wedding in June because they felt uncomfortable with her.
The interview didn’t stop there. Most recently, Federline posted videos that appear to be several years old and show Spears scolding her sons. The dancer wrote: “I hope our children get better than that.” Spears’ lawyer has something to say about this. In one, he announced that Federline had created legal problems for himself with the secretly recorded videos. “Whether he is aware of it or not, Mr. Federline has not only violated the privacy and dignity of the mother of his children, he has also attacked that of his own children,” the statement said.
