Author Salman Rushdie was stabbed and stabbed on stage at an event. His condition is unclear.

The writer Salman Rushdie (75) was attacked on stage during a literary event in the United States. The Indian-British author of the “Satanic Verses” fell to the ground in the assassination attempt in upstate New York, as can be seen in pictures.

The author, who was going to give a lecture on artistic freedom, had just got on the stage and was being introduced when the assailant rushed to him. According to eyewitnesses, he ran “at lightning speed” towards the writer and attacked him with his fists and a knife until he was overpowered by several people. The interviewer also sustained a serious head injury. The incident happened around 11 am, approximately 5 pm local time.

Was the attacker Islamist?

The alleged attacker was arrested by a police officer present at the event. His motive is not yet clear, but could be related to the author’s work. Rushdie was under police protection long after Iran called for his assassination because of his book The Satanic Verses. Even today, an organization in Iran is offering a reward of three million dollars for his death.
